Before Calibration After calibration
Typically in today's consumer electronics culture, Customer's seek the best price on the product. They bring it home and watch it. Some even watch TV in the Showroom Mode months and years later. The Showroom mode is also called "Vivid" or "Dynamic". In any case, the picture is too bright. Very little detail in the blacks. The contrast is turmed all the way up as is the Sharpness adding noise to the fine edges.
Calibration gives you the best perfomance out of your investment. Calibration starts with White balance and sets the Whites at a true 6500 degree Kelvin White or true white. When the whites are true whites, the other colors are accurate as well. The next part of the calibration is called dynamic range calibration. Here the blacks are calibrated to give the most detail without appearing gray. Next the whites are calibrated to give pure whites without glaring or sparkling out. Then finally the color levels and sharpness is adjusted for best performace without the added noise generated by high sharpness settings. All of these are custom adjusted to your room light levels for your TV watching.
